En 1919, 4 ans après la terrible bataille des Dardanelles, un paysan australien, Joshua Connor (Russell Crowe), rejoint la Turquie par bateau, résolu à retrouver ses trois fils, ayant combattu aux côtés des Anglais, et à les ramener sur leur terre natale, selon le souhait de sa défunte femme Eliza. Mais rien, dans les 46 ans de vie rurale de cet homme, ne l’a préparé au mélange de grandeur, de beauté et de chaos qu’est Constantinople, et la ville, sous occupation britannique, reste pour lui un territoire ennemi où ses fils ont disparu.
À son arrivée au port, il est accosté par le jeune Orhan qui le conduit jusqu’à l’hôtel Troya et le présente à sa mère, la belle Ayshe (Olga Kurylenko). D’abord méfiante face à cet Australien un peu rustre, Ayshe se décide à lui venir en aide quand les forces britanniques lui refusent l’accès au champ de bataille où une opération de recherche et d’identification des disparus est en cours.
Avec l’assistance d’Hassan, un général turc contraint de collaborer avec ses anciens ennemis, Joshua convainc l’armée britannique de le laisser rechercher ses fils, parmi les milliers de corps disséminés dans toute la péninsule de Gallipoli. En retrouvant les dépouilles de ses deux cadets, il prend conscience que sa quête ne fait que commencer, et cette quête va lui découvrir un pays ravagé par la guerre, où la frontière entre le Bien et le Mal n’est plus si nette et l’ennemi si clairement identifiable.
LA PROMESSE D’UNE VIE est une formidable histoire d’amour, de foi et de courage qui explore les effets imprévisibles et contradictoires de la guerre et la puissance de l’amour.

Albino Activism in Tanzania: VICE News Meets Josephat Torner
A string of murders that began in 2000 has now left more than 72 albinos in Tanzania dead. These killings are believed to be motivated by the lucrative trade in albino body parts, which some Africans believe possess magical powers.
Tanzania has now been listed by the United Nations as the African nation where albinos are targeted for murder the most. According to long-standing traditions in the country, albinos are believed to be ghosts who are cursed, but whose body parts can ward off bad luck, and bring the owner wealth and success. In response to these killings, in January 2015 Tanzania banned witch doctors.
In East Africa, one child in 3,000 is born albino, compared to one in 20,000 in the United States. In Tanzania, albino advocacy groups estimate the number of albinos to be somewhere above 100,000 in a population of nearly 50 million people.
VICE News traveled to Tanzania to meet with Josephat Torner, an albino activist who has dedicated his life to raising awareness and acceptance towards albinos in his country, while debunking the widespread myths and superstitions surrounding the congenital disorder.

Clear and Present Danger
This is the third film based on Tom Clancy’s high-tech espionage potboilers starring CIA deputy director Jack Ryan. Harrison Ford, returning to the Ryan role after his first go-round in 1992’s Patriot Games, is assigned to a delicate anti-drug investigation after a close friend of the President (a Reaganesque Donald Moffat) is murdered by a Colombian drug cartel. When Ryan discovers that the President’s wealthy friend was in league with the cartel, the President’s devious national security adviser (Harris Yulin) and an ambitious CIA deputy director (Henry Czerny) send a secret paramilitary force into Colombia to wipe out the drug lords. The force is captured and then abandoned by the President’s lackeys. It falls to Ryan to enter Colombia and rescue them, aided only by a renegade operative named Clark (Willem Dafoe), with both his life and career on the line.
